Psychiatric Services 

With 132 beds, St. Alexius Hospital has one of the largest psychiatric programs operated by a private hospital in the St. Louis area. Psychiatrists, registered nurses, social workers, and other staff members, who are trained in treating patients with mental and emotional disorders, provide both individual attention and compassionate care.

St. Alexius Hospital offers a continuum of psychiatric services for adults (age 18 and older) as well as a 33-bed geropsychiatric unit for older adults offering a wide range of medical and psychiatric services.

Care is available for conditions including:

- depression
- bipolar disorder
- anxiety and panic disorders
- schizophrenia
- dementia
- dual diagnosis (mental disorder combined with substance abuse)
- disorders associated with developmental disabilities

St. Alexius Hospital provides an assessment and referral service. Qualified mental health professionals gather assessment information and will assist in referral to the appropriate facility. Psychiatric admissions are registered and assessed through the 24-hour, 7-day-a-week psychiatric intake services.

In addition to inpatient services, the hospital offers:
- Discharge planning for hospitalized patients
- Psychiatrist Office Visits
- Intensive therapeutic groups on focused topics
- Detox program

Community Education Program
Mental health professionals at St. Alexius Hospital reach out into the community to provide inservices at nursing homes and other institutions on a variety of topics.
